Looked After Children (LAC)

The Ashwood Practice has years of experience of offering services for Looked After Children. Children who come into the Care of the Local Authority have invariably suffered trauma and considerable disruption in their lives and tend to be the most needy children in society with a range of complex emotional and behavioural difficulties. They offer a challenge to those attempting to think about their needs, plan for them accordingly and try to provide a healing environment in which to promote their recovery. The Ashwood Practice offers services at each level of need.

• Consultation to Social Workers on ‘Making Sense of the Case’ / Risk Assessment / Risk Management / Care Planning
• Psychiatric / Psychological Assessments to provide Expert Opinion in Care Proceedings
• Therapeutic Services for families working towards rehabilitation
• Placement Planning – siblings together or apart ?
• Consultation to professional networks working with LAC and their parents / carers
• Contact Service during Care Proceedings and for LAC placed for permanency outside their family
• Life Story Work
• Consultation to Foster Carers
• Consultation to Residential Social Workers
• Consultation to adoptive parents / post placement support
• Direct therapeutic work for children / young people
